Anniversary gift

Doug got me this great handbag for our anniversary (I gave him Raving Rabbids TV for the Wii hee hee).  I had dropped a big hint several months ago, but he likes to ignore my hints and surprise me instead.  But this time he took it to heart, and boy am I glad.  What's even better, I was totally NOT expecting it.

The embroidery on these bags is done by ethnic minority women in Hunan, the western part of the province in China that Rose is from.  A couple from the United States has hooked up with the women to help them sell their handicrafts to earn much needed money.  If you want to get an idea of the culture from that area of China, their website is www.shenaini.com.  If you click on "Visit the Artists" you can scroll through photos of the area.

How fun is this?

My friend Mary picked up this Lego Advent calendar for me at the Lego store at the Mall of America.  I so can't wait until Monday when Rose can start opening them.  Behind each door is a small figurine that she gets to assemble.  Way too cool.  How come I didn't get these things when I was little??

Wedding Anniversary

Today is our wedding anniversary.  Happy Anniversary Doug!  8 years ago today we were in Las Vegas.  A limo picked us up at our hotel, took us to the registrars office, and then over to The Little White Wedding Chapel.  The ceremony lasted a whole 60 seconds I think.  That evening we went to dinner at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant and then over to Treasure Island hotel for a Cirque Du Solei show.  If I remember right, we had 2nd row seats and couldn't have had a better time.  This is after Doug had to pull me away from a winning slot machine.

Our original plan was to get married in a hot air balloon.  We had it all setup, but Doug had come down with a bug the day we got to Vegas, and he didn't think his stomach would be able to handle it.  We only had a little window of time for the hot air balloon ride because of weather conditions, and there was no way he was going to be better by then.  We promised the woman that was so helpful taking our reservation that we would come back in 10 years and renew our vows in a balloon then.  Hmmmm...that's only 2 years away.

We also had gone off to Vegas with only our families and about 4 coworkers knowing.   We were working together at Visi.com at the time.  When we came back to work, I wore a t-shirt that said "Just married at the Little White Wedding Chapel" on it.  Alot of people thought we were joking, but then I showed them my ring.  That was fun!

We had a brunch just with family at Campiello's in Uptown the Sunday after we returned.  We had asked for no gifts other than a Christmas ornament to decorate our tree.  We now have wonderful memories each Christmas when we put up the tree.

Rose is off to her friend Cate's house, and Doug and I will be going to dinner (probably Vescio's or The 50's Grill).

Rosebud and I went swimming this afternoon, and then came home cold, hungry and tired.  Had a yummy snack (McFlurries!) and then snuggled in bed and fell asleep.  Ahhhh, my kind of day!

Looking forward to the next 8 years with my handsome, kind, loving husband.

Dogs DO have belly buttons!

According to Wiki Answers:

"The umbilicus (commonly called a navel, or belly button) is a scar caused when the umbilical cord of a newborn baby is removed. It appears on all placental mammals;and though it is obvious on humans, on most other mammals, including dogs, it appears as a thin hairless line."

Which reminds me...if you have an outie, you are pretty lucky to have such a nice car :)

I'm new at this and testing out how to add photos.  Here is little girl on her first day of kindergarten.

Why I named this blog Do Dogs Have Belly Buttons?

Over the years my husband and I have kept record of what we call Roseisms - funny expressions, questions and observations our 5 year old daughter Rose has come up with.   We read through some of them to get an idea for our blog name, and that question made us both laugh and smile.

Some other possible contenders were:

Cinderella Cheese (Mozzerella Cheese)
Little Bo Peek (Little Bo Peep)
Unihorse (Unicorn)
I'm licking your leg (I'm kicking your leg)
Can you speak squirrel mom?
Fruit snacks in the poo pot (Winnie the Pooh cookie jar)

Now I need to go google to learn if dogs have belly buttons.   I told her to go ask her dad, but it turns out he doesn't know.
