Rose-isms

Rose has been telling us she wants to go to Hannah.  Canada?  Hawaii?  Hunan?  Hemit (where grandma Mona is)?

NO, mom, HANNAH!  Now, she doesn't always have the clearest speech, and she gets frustrated when we don't understand.  So she stomps off and gets her United States puzzle map and points to Montana.

Doh!  Hannah = Montana in Rose's mind, thanks to Miley Cyrus.  But I have no idea why she wants to go to Montana.

Last weekend we stayed in our PJ's on Saturday and did crafts all afternoon.  Someone (Mary?) had given me Scooby Doo shrinky dinks that you color with pencils and then bake and they shrink.  Rose wanted to do the Daffodil one.  Daffodil = Daphne.

And Marther King is the new name for Martin Luther King.  I figured that one out on the first try.  Pretty proud of myself.

Surfin' Sunday

What do YOU do on a Sunday when the temperature is zero degrees out, your listening to an Ipod, and Surfin' USA comes on?

Why of course!  You go get your swimsuit on, 50's glasses, and dance dance dance in the living room.  Just make sure your Ipod matches your swimsuit, ok?

Yesterday, she fed her Webkinz dachshund Haute Dog a treat of pizza with anchovies, ice cream and GASP! a hot dog.  We have the best free entertainment here.

Saturday Silliness

I had the actual newspaper clipping on here, but it keeps disappearing.  So I'm just going to type it out.  It appeared in the Minneapolis Star Tribune on November 16, 2007.   This was in the police blotter listing local activity in Norwood/Young America.  Time to change the dog's diet, me's thinks :)

"Nov. 5 - Gas smell.  A strong smell of natural gas was reported in the 100 block of E. Elm St.  The caller said the smell was possibly from the stove, or could have been caused by the dog."

Favorite photo Friday

Here's Rose and my mom playing pat-a-cake in May 2007.  My mom turned 84 years young this month.  She may not remember much anymore because of Alzheimer's disease, but she is great at children's songs.  Interesting how the mind works.

Full of words Wednesday

So I'm house sitting for a friend.  Can't find their house key.  Looked everywhere, checked every pocket.  Double checked everywhere for 2 days.  Nada.  Starting to worry.  Then I remember their garage door code.  Did I mention I'm also dog sitting, with the dog at our house?  Get dog all collared and leashed, go over, get into garage.  Shovel driveway while holding dog on leash.  Dog sees a mom and a daughter walking over to school.  Dog way too eager to go say hi, pulls leash out of my wet cold ungloved hand, and zooms off down the road.  Did I mention the mom & daughter were over 1/2 block away?  Me, trying to run after dog, but I have bad foot pain and clunking half tied boots.  Me, trying to whistle, but the air is too dry.  Me clapping and calling dogs name but hands too cold to clap without breaking them.  Mom and daughter totally ignoring dog and crazy woman limping down the street making funny noises.  Finally catch up 2 streets over.   The mom says "Oh, I suppose I could have grabbed the leash".   Ya think?!  (Let's hope that neighbor doesn't read this blog)...

And then to totally ruin my mood (if that hasn't already)...Rumor Queen had a post earlier this month of a "possible" speed up of referrals.  Lately they have been matching  less than a weeks worth of LID's (Logged in dates - the dates given to families that their paperwork was logged into China's Center for Adoption Affairs system), but usually around 5 days worth.  She was really cautious about it this encouraging rumor, bless her heart.  But now today the rumor has changed to the next batch being only covering the LID's for the first 2 days of March 2006.  Ouch.  Our LID Is April 27, 2006.  Will we ever see our 2nd daughter's face?

The final straw was logging into Webkinz only to find out their system is down for maintenance.  How cruel!

So tempting to call in sick to work today and pull the covers over my head, but hey, I tried that yesterday and they asked me to come in anyway.  (I had been sick Sunday and Monday MLK day, gave my boss a heads up on Monday that I might not make it Tuesday so she could find a sub, couldn't find a sub, I was feeling better Tuesday, so went in and washed dishes so I wasn't breathing on any little kiddies.  Just contaminated every tray and dish in the place, that's all.  Just kidding...).

Oh well, I knew there was a reason Doug made some fantastic chocolate chip cookies late last night.  Breakfast!

By special request

Here is a link to a video on youtube that many of you have asked to see. Doug says this is something that he could see Rose doing. Let's hope not. The mom is so calm. I wouldn't be...

I spy in the napping house

The Napping House is one of my favorite children's books.  I just discovered this picture on our camera.  I don't know who took it, but I can guess why it was taken.  Can you spy three nappers?  This is from January 3 of this year.  We were dog and cat sitting that weekend.

And it occurred to me that there are other pictures snapped napping.  Can you spy four of us in  the picture below?  Me, Sasha, Klingon and LB.  Pre 2004.

Then we have Doug, Sasha and Klingon.  Doug was reading but then fell asleep.  Pre 2004.

And last but not least, just us girls.  Rose, Mama and Sasha.  July 1, 2004.  Home 1 week from China - doesn't Sasha look a little worried/peeved/jealous?

FCC Midwest Chinese New Year Festival

My life is boring, but that's a good thing...
not much happening in our household at all.

Today I attended the Chinese New Year festival committee meeting, have some fun crafts lined up for the couple hundred kiddos.  Doing a carnival this year which should be fun too.  Non FCC members are welcome to attend.  Go to www.fccmidwest.com to register.  Lots of entertainment, demonstrations, food, vendors, crafts.  There is even a lion dance parade followed by fireworks.

I have a confession

I'm addicted to Webkinz.  I need my own.  Now.
Updated to say:  I caved and started out to buy one for me so I could have my very own, and one for Rose because we are allowing her to spend some of her Christmas money.  But, they had a buy 2 get one free we couldn't pass up.  And Rose's friend C was along and had some Christmas money to spend too.  So we ended up with SIX total.  Two for each of us.   Of which 2 were free.  Good thing C's mom V isn't into them.  Yet.

I had to wait for Rose to go to bed so I could get onto my computer and register them.  She hogged it from the time we got home until bedtime.  She also blew through over 5,000 Webkinz dollars.  Uhm...I wonder where she got those bad spending habits from?

I got a black and white doggy and a chipmunk.  Cheeky and Chippy.  Sasha used to love hunting the chipmunks in our yard.  Rose got a white poodle (Fluffy) and a brown dachshund (Haute Dog).  Get this - she wanted to name it Hot Dog, but Webkinz wouldn't allow the word Hot as part of a name.  So sad that the word "hot" has become too risque, and is probably a word in a lot of web filters to block kids from unsavory websites.  Bah.  What's this world coming to?

The things we do for love

Like walking in the rain
and the snow
when there's no where to go
and fishing rings out of toilets
whoa ohhhh

During playgroup today with 10 rambunctious kids (and 7 sometimes rambunctious moms...ahem... Mrs. C and the sonic boom) Rose informed me that while going potty her ring slipped off.  Noticed after she flushed, thank goodness.  And there it sat in the trap, just barely visible.  Mom to the rescue!  With about 5 kids looking on horrified that anyone would do such a thing, I stuck my hand in and pulled it out.  Success!  I wish I had a picture of young boy D's face when I told him what I just did.  Oh, and to make sure there was no question about sanitation, I washed my arm and ring three times in front of the kids, as witness.

Ah...the things we do for love, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
