Bumbles Bounce

Ok, so she's not a Bumble, but she sure bounces!  Rose has recovered so amazingly quick from her tonsil/adenoid surgery.  She bounced right back.  I ended up sleeping with her last night, and the only one snoring was me.  Snoring gone - check.  Soar throat gone - check.  Speech clearer - check.  Breathing easier - check.

We got to partake in regular Christmas activities, she is eating normal foods, and playing up a storm.  Mom had wrapped 10 small gifts, and each time she took her medicine without complaint she got to open one.  We got a lot of mileage out of that.  Of course, she started asking for her medicine so she could open a gift.  That's how druggies start I think...

She also learned just how very much she is loved by many many people.  The phone calls, cards, gifts, emails all helped to perk her up, we are so fortunate to have so many caring friends, neighbors and family.  Thank you to everyone we heard from, she was really humbled by it all.

Goodbye Tonsils and Adenoids - Update

Tomorrow (Monday) Rose is having surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids.  Most doctors and her dentist have been astonished that she can even breath, her adenoids are so large.  Please send positive thoughts her way for a successful removal and recovery.  It is outpatient, so we will be back home later Monday.  Will try to post as soon as we are home so you will know how things are going.

Fa la la la la laaaaaa!

Update - well, we are home and she seems to be doing fine, on the couch having a Wendy';s Frosty.  Woke up a little po'd from surgery, so they hooked her up with mom & dad asap to calm her down.  That's our feisty girl!  Got there around 9:00, left at about 3:15.  She's pretty excited because they gave her a bag of hospital stuff, like cap, gloves, fake syringe etc.  Wait til she finds out how out of control mom's been shopping for little gifts to perk her up.  I've done my part to help support our economy :)

"Nibble me shivers!" and other Rose-isms

For the past few years these silly Rose quotes have gone into our Christmas letter to family and friends.  Putting this years on the blog to keep letter from being really long:

"I have a milk-stash" (mustache)
When asked how a booboo on her lip was feeling: "It feels like it needs me to sit on your lap."
"Wart hog Day" (Ground hog Day)
"Lip Glass" (Lip Gloss)
"Forksticks" (toothpicks)
When told to put some clothes on: "I don't need to wear clothes, because it was really hot where I was born (Hunan, China) and I have all that heat stored up in me."
"Twirlouette" (Pirouette)
"Sun riser" (Sun Visor)
"Nibble me shivers!" (Shiver me timbers!)
"Unihorse" (Unicorn)
"I'm playing pull-a-war with the dog" (tug-o-war)
"Look!  They are hip hopping" (hip hop dancing)
"I'm ship shaping my room" (cleaning her room)
"Is that how astronauts kiss?  By rubbing noses?" (Eskimos)
"Flamingo dancing" (Flamenco)"
"Marote" (the remote)
"At least I don't get a wedgie sitting on the chair with no undies"
"Mom is at Oriental Trading today for her new job" (orientation)
"Are you a bunny hunter Dad?" (bounty hunter, Star Wars video game)

Picture this...

It's about midnight.  Your daughter is in bed, you hear her yell "Mommmm, I have to go the bathroom!".  Why she feels the need to announce this everytime, even in the middle of the night is a mystery.  You watch her come out of her room, whiz right past the bathroom, and head for...the kitchen?  She opens the refrigerator.  She opens the freezer.  The freezer is on the bottom.  You see her pull her pants down, turn around and try to sit in the freezer.  You quickly yell to get her attention and escort her to the proper place.  Turns out she is sleep-weeing or something.  Eyes are open but no idea what she just about did, nor any recollection the next morning.

Must now go examine the freezer to make sure this was the first and only incident...probably a good thing she announces when she has to go so we can be on the alert.  Let's just hope she doesn't try this while the oven is on.

The dog is on the kitchen counter!

Yesterday Doug went to pick up Sasha's cremains from the vet.   She's on the counter.  In a box.  It's the one time it's ok that the dog is on the counter.  Ok, I have a sick sense of humor.

The vet sent along the poem "Rainbow Bridge" and on the sheet of paper they had put a pawprint in ink of Sasha's actual paw.  Pretty sweet.  If you've never read the poem, grab a hanky and hit this link.

That's nothing though.  I have a butt print of Sasha's actual butt.  In the snow.  Here it is:

For book club we read the book "Every Last Cuckoo".  There is an older woman in the book who takes pictures outdoors of nature, and they are extreme close ups of unusual things (like Moose poop, or moss on trees, etc) so you don't always know exactly what you are looking at.  Kind of abstract but striking.  Just like my photo...heehee.

Look Mrs. Johnson, there's reindeer!

Cute story alert...

Most of you know I serve lunch at a local elementary school.  Earlier this week we had a real snowy afternoon.  A first grader was in class, and was trying to tell his teacher that there were reindeer outside, but the teacher just figured, oh, with Christmas and all, the children's imaginations are running wild.  After much insistence though by the child, the teacher looked and there were four deer standing  outside the window!

One of them had to be the same male deer that one day was startled by a train and came running up out of the weeds and was running straight for my stopped car at traffic signal by the school.  Scared the pants off of me, and then it made a sharp turn and ran down the road  Big buck with a huge rack of antlers.  I love animals.

Fun piece of software out there that you can make these "Word Clouds" with.  I made this one from www.snapshirts.com.  Looks at your website and pulls words.  Other sites too will take something you've typed, like a document, and do the same thing.  Neat idea for a scrapbook page element.

Anyone read The Onion?

Totally tongue-in-cheek.  Us lunch ladies get no respect.

Two Teens Held In Lunch-Lady Mocking Incident

AUGUST 26, 1998 | ISSUE 34•04

JASPER, IN–Jasper Junior High School became the site of the nation's latest incident of teen ridicule Tuesday, when a pair of lunch ladies was brutally mocked by two students while serving breaded chicken patties and tater tots with fruit cup or raspberry-cobbler surprise. The students, eighth-graders Alex Byner, 14, and Dan Mattson, 13, have been detained for questioning. They have not yet been formally charged.

ENLARGE IMAGETwo Teens Held

Jasper, IN, eighth-graders Alex Byner (left) and Dan Mattson are detained in connection with the brutal mocking of two cafeteria lunch ladies, including 69-year-old Agatha Klogeil (inset).

According to school officials, lunch ladies Birgit Szlach, 54, and Agatha Klogeil, 69, were ladling gravy onto the trays of Byner and Mattson when the youths opened fire with a barrage of insults, "giggling, pointing and making fake vomiting sounds clearly directed at the cafeteria employees."

"What we have here is a couple of kids looking to exploit the inherent dumpiness of school-cafeteria workers for their own humor purposes," school principal Milton Leyner said. "Trying to make themselves feel like big men by picking on the lowest of the low. It's sick, that's what it is." While most details of the mockery are still not known, it is believed that the teens focused primarily on the lunch ladies' appearance, cracking wise over their leathery skin, hideous hairnets and shapeless, mustard-yellow frocks. Particularly amusing to the teens was the German-born Szlach, who, with her squat, blockish frame and tree-trunk ankles, resembles a barn.
